Homemade Gnocchi with Bolognese Sauce

The word gnocchi means "lump" or "knot" and is originally a Germanic word that may describe the distinctive shape of gnocchi. And just like most of Italian cooking, these delicious lumps do not just vary from region to region, but from household to household as well, depending upon what is available.

However, the most common way to prepare gnocchi is to combine potatoes (boiled, peeled and mashed) with flour to form soft bite-size lumps of dough.

Each gnocco is then ridged along one side like a seashell; this gives the sauce a surface to cling to when eating. Gnocchi also come in different sizes, with gnocchetti being the smallest version.

Ingredients :

- 500gr potato
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 large egg, beaten to blend
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

Directions :

- Boil the potato until tender. Cut the potato in half and scoop the flesh into a large bowl, discard the skin.
- Using a fork, mash the potato well. Mash in the salt and pepper. Mix in 3 tablespoons of the egg; discard the remaining egg.
- Sift the flour over the potato mixture and knead just until blended.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece between your palms and the work surface into a 1/2-inch-diameter rope (about 20 inches long).
- Cut the dough into 1-inch pieces. Roll each piece of dough over a wooden paddle with ridges or over the tines of a fork to form grooves in the dough.
- Cook the gnocchi in a large pot of boiling salted water until the gnocchi rise to the surface, about 1 minute. Continue cooking until the gnocchi are tender, about 4 minutes longer.

Gnocchi Saus Bolognese :

Ingredients :

- Margarin
- 1/2 Bawang bombay, iris tipis
- 1klg kecil Korned beef
- Saus bolognese secukupnya
- Saus pedas secukupnya
- 3sdm mayonais plain
- Gnocchi
- Keju parut

Method :

- Lelehkan margarin, tumis bawang bombay hingga harum. Masukkan korned beef, aduk-aduk
- Masukkan saus bolognese, saus pedas n mayonais, aduk-aduk kembali hingga rata
- Masukkan gnocchi, aduk sebentar sampai rata. Angkat
- Pindahkan ke piring n taburi keju parut :)
